Ramadan starts this month from 5 May until 4 June, during which time Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset. Numerous restaurants in London are embracing Ramadan and inviting people to join them this month in breaking their fast.

Verdict Foodservice has looked at what some of the leading Ramadan restaurants in London are providing for customers.

Honey & Smoke

The Middle Eastern grill restaurant from Sarit Packer and Itamar Srulovich is welcoming family and friends to break their fast at Great Portland Street in London. The Iftar menu will be available from 5:30 onwards and will cost £45 per person, including dates and almonds on arrival followed by a mezze. After this will be platters of chicken kebabs and slow cooked lamb leading on to dessert, customers will finish their meal will Turkish coffee or Herbal Mountain tea.

Mamounia Lounge

Another of the Ramadan restaurants is the Lebanese and Moroccan style restaurant based in Knightsbridge offering a menu specifically for Iftar, starting with dates and a choice of soup followed by a mezze sharing board, a main course and dessert. The five-course meal will cost £40 per person for customers that are breaking their fast.

Maison du Mezze

Middle Eastern restaurant Maison du Mezze based in Leicester Square and Kingston will be offering customers during a Ramadan a menu to break their fast. The four-course meal will change on a daily basis with special Ramadan drinks from £25 per person. The menu will include soup, a choice of hot or cold mezze, four options for main and two options for dessert.

Motu

Another Ramadan restaurant is the Indian delivery company Motu that will be sending out Iftar boxes throughout the month of Ramadan for people to break their fast. The food will cost £15 per box which will include Seekh kebab Haleem (mutton), pilau rice, red chilli naan and raiti.

Ramadan Tent Project’s Open Iftar

Open Iftar invites people from all walks of life to break their fast together by offering them free meals. It is now in its seventh year for the month of Ramadan. The Tent Project will be based in Malet Street Gardens. Darjeeling Express will be donating food packs to the tent project, with Asma Khan speaking on 11 May and 26 May in aid of the UN World Food Program talking about its app to donate an Iftar through smartphones.
