US-based casual dining brand On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina has launched a probe on a potential data breach involving payment processing at some of its restaurants.

Earlier this month the company found that some of its guests’ payment card information was accessed through malware installed on a payment processing system.

It has appointed a forensics firm to probe into the incident to understand how much of its system has been impacted.

The data breach may have involved payment cards processed at some of its restaurants between 10 April and 10 August.

The company found that this incident involves some of its restaurants in several states, including Maryland, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.

The company said that this breach neither affects the guests who made purchases for catering orders nor its franchisees.

On The Border has advised its guest to review their payment card statements regularly.

In February this year, US-based fast-food restaurant chain Taco Bueno Restaurants reported a data breach compromising the payment cards information of customers at certain locations.

The company launched an investigation to identify the breach after it received a report of the incident from a third-party source. It also appointed cybersecurity experts to assist in identifying the issue.
