American fast casual chain Chipotle Mexican Grill is planning to move its corporate headquarters to Newport Beach, California.

Currently headquartered in Denver, Colorado, the company will move its operations to the new office or an existing office in Columbus over the next six months.

The restaurant chain will also relocate its New York office functions to Newport Beach and Columbus locations.

The new office will house the company’s operations, business development, marketing, communications, finance, supply chain, food safety, technology, HR and other corporate functions.

“The consolidation of offices and the move to California will help us drive sustainable growth.”

The company will move its support functions to the Shared Services Center in Columbus and will close its New York and Denver offices after the transition.

Chipotle chief executive officer Brian Niccol said: “We have a tremendous opportunity at Chipotle to shape the future of our organisation and drive growth through our new strategy.

“The consolidation of offices and the move to California will help us drive sustainable growth while continuing to position us well in the competition for top talent.”

The transition will affect approximately 400 jobs in Denver and New York during the fourth quarter this year. However, the company is planning to offer relocation and retention packages to some employees.

The company will not include 70,000 field operations and restaurant employees in this transition.

Chipotle will also increase the staff at its Columbus office from 100 to more than 250 after consolidating shared services.
