Since 2002, Alsea has been expanding the chain’s operations in Latin America and currently operates 900 Starbucks stores in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, and Chile.

As part of the expansion in Uruguay, Alsea plans to open ten more stores in the country, which would create 130 new jobs by 2020.

Alsea International director Federico Tejado said: “We’re filled with pride to open our first Starbucks store in Uruguay, which bolsters, without a doubt, our solid growth strategy in the region.

“It also represents our first step in the local market, where we hope to close the year operating at least five stores of the brand.”
