Mexican-American chain Del Taco Restaurants is planning to expand the test of its Beyond Tacos across 20 sites in California.

Starting 13 December, the menu item will be available at 16 locations in San Diego, and five locations in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties.

Beyond Tacos was initially tested in Los Angeles. It is available in two variants, which are Beyond Avocado Taco and Beyond Taco, featuring Del Taco’s seasoned Beyond Meat recipe.

Beyond Avocado Taco (vegan) is a blend of seasoned Beyond Meat plant-based crumbles, sliced avocado, lettuce, and diced tomatoes. Beyond Taco (vegetarian) features Seasoned Beyond Meat plant-based crumbles, hand-grated cheddar cheese, lettuce and diced tomatoes in a crunchy shell.

Del Taco president and CEO John Cappasola said: “With a growing demand for vegan and vegetarian options among our guests, we saw an opportunity within the space to partner with Beyond Meat to develop a proprietary blend of seasoned, 100% plant-based meat.
