Online food ordering firm Lunchbox has collaborated with food services and facilities management company Sodexo and delivery robot start-up Kiwibot.

As part of the partnership, the companies will collaborate to provide autonomous and contactless food delivery at the University of Denver (UD).

The Eats DU app, developed by Lunchbox and Sodexo, will facilitate contactless delivery across the campus with Kiwibot’s delivery robots serving as the last-mile solution.

This is the first time Lunchbox is using robotic deliveries for its operations.

Lunchbox noted that its partnership with Sodexo and Kiwibot will serve as a model for seamlessly integrating digital ordering and autonomous delivery.

The partnership follows the company’s $2m funding round this January. It also plans to expand the partnership to include other locations such as workplaces, hospitals, and cities in the future.

Lunchbox CEO and co-founder Nabeel Alamgir said: “We’re beyond thrilled to add even more capabilities to the Lunchbox platform to actively redefine the future of robotic deliveries in the hospitality industry, and provide the next wave of on-campus meal-plan innovation for students and faculty.

“Our partnership with Sodexo will greatly expand our enterprise solutions that will contribute to the evolution of the digital ordering experience and decrease customers’ costly reliance on third-party options.”

Lunchbox said it plans to further advance its presence in the autonomous food delivery space and develop its platform to adopt new trends in the on-demand economy.

Last month, the company partnered with restaurant technology service provider Ordermark to develop connected solutions that help restaurants to expand their digital commerce abilities amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
