Global fast food chain McDonald’s has received approval from its board of directors to make several organisational changes to its company’s global business.

The restaurant chain will operate under a new organisational structure with various global business segments including the US, international operated markets (IOM) and international developmental licensed markets (IDL) from 1 January 2019.

For the US segment, the company will continue to operate the business under McDonald’s USA current president Chris Kempczinski.

The IOM division covers wholly-owned markets and countries including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, Spain and the UK. Joe Erlinger will lead the division as its president.

“This new organisational structure provides us the opportunity to continue building on our progress.”

Ian Borden will lead the IDL division as its president. The division covers the remaining markets and corporate activities in the McDonald’s system.

Both Erlinger and Borden will report to McDonald’s president and CEO Steve Easterbrook.

Easterbrook said: “The organisation we created as we were beginning our turnaround in 2015 helped us make decisions more quickly, act with greater agility and strengthen the performance of our markets.

“This new organisational structure provides us the opportunity to continue building on our progress, making sure McDonald’s remains positioned to run great restaurants and better serve our customers.”

Additionally, McDonald’s international lead markets president and chief restaurant officer Doug Goare has decided to retire from his role on 31 December this year.
