US-based fast casual restaurant chain Sweetgreen has introduced a new catering service called Outpost on a pilot basis for corporate employees.

To use the service, customers are required to place orders through the restaurant chain’s website or app. The food is then delivered with the customer’s name on it to kiosks located in companies’ corporate headquarters. The service is currently offered for free.

As part of the pilot programme, Sweetgreen is currently operating 15 Outpost locations and plans to expand it to 100 by the end of 2018 and to 2,000 by 2019.

Sweetgreen CEO Jonathan Neman was quoted by Forbes as saying: “What’s exciting about Outpost is it allows us to serve customers at scale with no fee and without having to build new locations.

“Our mantra is to meet customers wherever they are so we can make healthy eating as easy as possible.”

“Employees in the offices where these exist think of this as an amenity and that is exactly what we want. This is disrupting the traditional storefront idea.”

Currently, the company is only offering Outpost in corporate offices, however there is scope to expand the service further to other domains.

Neman added: “Our mantra is to meet customers wherever they are so we can make healthy eating as easy as possible. There’s always been so much friction in doing so. Over the past ten years, we’ve been solving that by offering healthier food with fast food prices.

“But people still have to leave their office, drive, park and wait. With Outpost, we’re meeting customers where they are and without a fee. This is about creating a solution so we can serve a lot of customers.”
