Wendy’s International president and chief development officer Abigail Pringle said: “We set a goal to enter the UK this year with five company-owned and operated restaurants, and we’ve delivered.

“We’ve also welcomed our first franchisee, REEF, that has opened five delivery kitchens to date. We have seen incredible success that outperformed our expectations, and it’s clear to us that customers are loving our fresh, high-quality food. Now, it’s time to hit the accelerator to bring more Wendy’s to more British customers across the country.”

The company is holding discussions with franchise partners to expand its presence in Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland.

Outside Greater London, Wendy’s intends to open new restaurants in Brighton and the Midlands.

It plans to offer its products through various channels such as restaurants, drive-thrus and delivery kitchens.

Wendy’s senior vice-president and UK and Canada managing director Paul Hilder said: “We’re in the final stages of discussions with two traditional franchise partners who will help the brand across the Midlands and the North of England, and we have a very strong pipeline of franchise candidates beyond that.”

In January this year, NPC International announced the sale of its restaurants to the Flynn Restaurant Group and Wendy’s International.
