It does not include a dining room or drive-through, but instead has a walk-up counter and takeaway service.

Located at 763 E Gunhill Road, the restaurant’s walk-up design is intended for dense urban areas where space is limited and footfall is high.

Captain D’s chief development officer Brad Reed stated: “This Bronx opening marks an important step in our strategic growth into the Northeast, showcasing how we can deliver on the Captain D’s brand promise in markets where space comes at a premium.”

The menu includes hand-battered fish fillets, grilled seafood, shrimp, chicken meals, homestyle sides, hushpuppies [fried cornmeal batter balls] and Southern-style sweet tea.

The franchisee team behind the launch is Shahid Raza and development partners at FSR Group.

The group has restaurant and franchise interests in Maryland, Virginia Beach and New York, including a fast-food chain called Checkers in the same Bronx retail strip on Gunhill Road.

The operators are also working on five Captain D’s locations in the metropolitan area of Baltimore.

Raza stated: “One of the reasons we chose to franchise with Captain D’s is that the brand fills a gap in the markets it serves by pairing high-quality seafood with great value.

“There is no other franchise concept like it in New York. This new walk-up prototype is fast, convenient and built for the Bronx, perfectly matching the neighbourhood’s need for affordable meals on the go.”

Captain D’s is expanding along the eastern seaboard. In addition to the Bronx opening, three more sites are under development in the New York City area.

Founded in Tennessee more than 50 years ago, the chain has more than 530 restaurants across 23 states.

In November 2025, Captain D’s launched its inaugural UK and European flagship restaurant in Kent, England.
