The global foodservice industry experienced a 25% rise in company filings mentions of social responsibility in Q1 2023 compared with the previous quarter, with the highest share accounted for by Yum China with 206% year-on-year increase, according to GlobalData’s analysis of over 71 foodservice company filings. Notably, social responsibility was one of the most frequently referenced themes in Q1 2023, ranking highest in terms of mentions, ahead of Covid-19 and environment, according to GlobalData.
Of the 50 leading companies in the foodservice industry, Yum China had the greatest increase in references for social responsibility in Q1 2023, compared with the previous quarter. GlobalData identified 214 social responsibility-related sentences in the company's filings, an increase of 7000% in Q1 2023 compared with Q4 2022. Sodexo's mentions of social responsibility rose by 200% to 66 and McDonald's's by 100% to 37 and Chipotle Mexican Grill's by 600% to 28 and Yum! Brands's by 400% to 28.
GlobalData's Company Filings Analytics also applies sentiment weight to reference sentences, based on whether the sentences are positive, negative, or neutral. Starting at 100 in 2020, an index over 100 is more positive. The overall index for social responsibility in Q1 2023 was 98.
