Food Preparation and Serving Related Occupations drive future of work-related hiring activity

Food Preparation and Serving Related Occupations, with a share of 44%, emerged as the top future of work-related job roles within the food service industry in Q2 2023, with new job postings drop by 17% quarter-on-quarter. Management Occupations came in second with a share of 12% in Q2 2023, with new job postings dropping by 63% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent future of work roles include Computer and Mathematical Occupations with a 7% share in Q2 2023, Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Occupations with a 5% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in food service industry accounted for 62% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q2 2023 were Mitchells & Butlers, HelloFresh, McDonald's, AmRest Holdings, and Compass Group. Together they accounted for a combined share of 62% of all future of work-related new jobs in the food service industry.

Mitchells & Butlers posted 688 future of work-related new jobs in Q2 2023, HelloFresh 92 jobs, McDonald's 83 jobs, AmRest Holdings 71 jobs, and Compass Group 70 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the UK with a 46.87% share of total new job postings, Q2 2023

The largest share of future of work-related new job postings in the food service industry in Q2 2023 was in the UK with 46.87% followed by the US (38.10%) and Canada (5.15%). The share represented by the UK was 14 percentage points higher than the 32.79% share it accounted for in Q1 2023.
