The top five companies accounted for 18% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Panasonic filed the most digitalization patents within the foodservice industry in Q3 2023. The company filed 5 digitalization-related patents in the quarter, compared with 4 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Sony Group with 2 digitalization patent filings, Alphabet (2 filings), and China National Institute of Standardization (1 filing) in Q3 2023.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 67% share of total patent filings
The largest share of digitalization related patent filings in the foodservice industry in Q3 2023 was in the US with 67%, followed by China (7%) and South Korea (7%). The share represented by the US was 10% higher than the 57% share it accounted for in Q2 2023.
