
Korean fried chicken brand Bonchon is preparing for a significant expansion in the US and international markets, with new appointments to its development team.
The chain plans to double its number of restaurants from 500 to 1,000 by 2030.
Bonchon has identified 15 priority markets for its growth, including major cities such as Chicago and areas such as Los Angeles County.
To facilitate growth, the company has announced David Wheeler as development vice president and Michel Haddad as design and construction director.
Wheeler, with more 25 years of experience leading expansion for worldwide franchise organisations, is set to manage all facets of Bonchon’s franchise development, which includes site selection, construction and providing cross-functional support.
He stated: “It’s an exciting time to be part of a brand that’s capturing strong momentum and expanding its footprint.

His background includes development roles at Salata and Pollo Campero.
Bonchon CEO Suzie Tsai stated: “David brings the kind of franchise development expertise and industry relationships that are essential to driving Bonchon’s next phase of growth.
“He will pursue ambitious multi-unit operators in high-potential markets as we focus on our most successful restaurant format and brand continuity.”
Haddad has held leadership positions at Drive Shack and Sun Holdings, managing a portfolio that included Burger King and Applebee’s.
His expertise in design and construction will be pivotal in ensuring new Bonchon restaurants are built on time and budget.
The restaurant chain was established in 2006 in the US.
In 2024, the chain launched a new Korean-style chicken sandwich across its US locations.
In March 2025, it expanded its menu with the launch of Bulgogi Takeover.
