GEN Restaurant Group has expanded its international presence by launching two new locations in South Korea.

Established in 2011 by two Korean immigrants in Los Angeles, GEN Korean BBQ has grown to 56 company-owned locations across the US.

The restaurant’s menu features a selection of traditional Korean and Korean-American dishes based around meats, poultry, seafood and vegetables.

GEN chairman and CEO David Kim stated: “We are proud to announce the launch of two additional international locations in Wiyre, South Korea, one GEN location and one KAN Sushi, expanding our footprint to a total of six international locations.

“Empowered by the success of previous locations, the expansion into two additional sites represents a key development for GEN, underscoring our commitment to establishing a strong presence in the South Korean market.”

The recent openings reflect GEN’s strategy to enter and expand within the South Korean market.

In August 2025, GEN opened its thirteenth GEN Korean BBQ restaurant in El Paso in the US state of Texas.

This new establishment, located at 1319-I George Dieter Drive, is close to both New Mexico and Mexico.

The El Paso location offers a menu that includes a variety of traditional Korean and Korean-American cuisine.

In the same month, the brand revealed its financial results for the second quarter (Q2) of 2025, reporting an increase in its total revenue by 2.2% year-on-year to $55m, compared to $53.9m in Q2 2024.

During the second quarter ending 30 June 2025, restaurant-level adjusted earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation were $9m – 16.3% of revenue.
