McDonald’s Canada is set to introduce a new vegetarian option to its menu with the nationwide launch of the McVeggie burger on 16 September 2025.

The decision follows a successful trial run in British Columbia, Ontario and New Brunswick earlier in the year, in which the burger received a favourable reception.

McDonald’s franchisee in Ontario Kathy Damrell stated: “When we introduced the McVeggie in our restaurants during the test earlier this year, the response from guests was incredible. They appreciated having a veggie patty that delivered on both flavour and quality.

“It’s so rewarding to see how excited our guests were to have new menu options for every taste, and I’m thrilled that McDonald’s Canada is now making it available across the country.”

The McVeggie is tailored for the Canadian audience and consists of a breaded vegetable patty made from broccoli, carrots, corn, courgettes, green beans, peas and soybeans.

It is accompanied by shredded lettuce and a mayo-style sauce, and served on a toasted sesame bun.

McDonald’s Canada chief marketing officer Francesca Cardarelli stated: “Canadians asked for more options to meet modern lifestyles, and we listened.

“The McVeggie isn’t just a sandwich, it’s a celebration of bold flavour and our commitment to serving all guests and their evolving tastes.

“This launch reflects McDonald’s dedication to creating iconic moments with craveworthy menu items, for every Canadian.”

The chain will offer a Spicy Habanero McVeggie, which features a creamy Habanero sauce.

The McVeggie will join other inclusive menu items: the Grilled Cheese Happy Meal and the Lettuce and Tomato Snack Wrap Happy Meal, both available at participating locations from the same launch date.

Customers can choose to order the McVeggie individually or as part of an Extra Value Meal, which includes fries made from 100% Canadian potatoes. Earlier in 2025, McDonald’s Canada also launched an oat beverage for select McCafé offerings.
