Sandwich and coffee chain Pret A Manger has announced plans to launch new-format stores with increased dining space and a focus on made-to-order food.
The initiative is part of the company’s strategy for UK expansion.
The chain is adapting to the rise in remote working by encouraging guests to dine in and enjoy their meals without haste.
Pret now has 500 UK locations and is testing the latest format in Broughty Ferry near Dundee and Maidenhead, Berkshire.
Unlike most of its London stores, which are geared towards grab-and-go service, the new stores focus on made-to-order items.
These locations will provide additional space for dine-in customers and feature a Little Stars Café play area for families with children.

By GlobalDataThis development signifies Pret’s focus on expanding its footprint beyond London, with a notable number of its recent coffee shop openings outside the capital.
Pret A Manger UK and Europe managing director Clare Clough was quoted by the Independent: “Throughout the past five years, we’ve made it a priority to bring Pret to more people, whether you’re a City worker commuting to the office, a parent juggling work and family life, or someone catching up with friends.
“Now, we’re taking that further, making Pret a destination for customers in a bit less of a rush who want a comfortable space to enjoy delicious food and spend time with family and friends.
“Our teams have been hard at work making sure everything from the shop design to the unique menu items has been carefully thought through, and we can’t wait to see how our customers respond.”
Pret A Manger’s owner, JAB Holding, is considering an initial public offering (IPO) as a means to introduce new investors into the business.
