Canadian coffee chain Tim Hortons has opened its first restaurant in Shanghai, marking its entry into China and its worldwide expansion.

Located at People’s Square in central Shanghai, the first restaurant is part of the exclusive master franchise joint agreement with the Cartesian Capital Group signed last year.

The restaurant is one of the company’s 1,500 locations planned to open across the country over the next ten years.

Tim Hortons president Alex Macedo said: “We’re excited to bring the iconic Tim Hortons brand and a piece of Canada around the globe.
