California-based restaurant chain Umami Burger has added three new plant-based Impossible Burgers to its menu.

Available for a limited time at Umami Burger locations nationwide, the introduction of the new meatless burgers expands Umami’s partnership with Impossible Foods that was first entered in May 2017.

Featuring a 4oz 100% plant-based Impossible meat patty on a vegan bun, the three additions are named Impossible VBQ, Impossible Trufflemaker and Impossible Classic.

Impossible VBQ comes with an espresso rub, smoky sweet BBQ sauce, coleslaw, thinly sliced jalapeno and grilled onions.

“We are keen to introduce these new Impossible options as well as our first-ever vegan bun nationwide.”

Impossible Trufflemaker is made using a truffle fondue, truffle aioli, port wine and truffle glaze topped with curly lettuce and tomato.

Impossible Classic features Umami house sauce and American cheese topped with curly lettuce, onion, and tomato.

The burgers join Umami’s original Impossible Burger, which features two patties, caramelised onions, American cheese, miso-mustard, house spread, dill pickles, lettuce, and tomato.

Umami Burger majority shareholder sbe chief culinary officer Martin Heireling said: “We are keen to introduce these new Impossible options as well as our first-ever vegan bun nationwide. We listened to what our diners were telling us and delivered this craveable collection for meat-lovers and plant-lovers in response.

“Impossible Classic is a play on an old-fashion, traditional burger but with an Umami and Impossible twist. Impossible VBQ is our first BBQ offering on the menu, so we let the umami flavour speak for itself through a 100% plant-based platform. Impossible Trufflemaker is a new take on an Umami Burger favourite, keeping true to its recipe but vegan from bun to bun. These are really just the beginning – stay tuned for more.”

Umami Burger was founded in Los Angeles in 2009, and currently operates 22 restaurants in California, New York, Illinois, Nevada, and Japan.
