Grubhub is extending its collaboration with US autonomous vehicle startup Avride to trial robot deliveries from Wonder’s Jersey City, US location.

This is the first time the food-delivery marketplace has offered autonomous service outside college campuses.

Customers ordering from Wonder via the Grubhub platform will have the option to select Avride robot delivery when their delivery address falls within the pilot’s eligible range.

Wonder, which acquired Grubhub earlier in 2025, operates a multi-restaurant model at the site, offering dishes from more than 20 concepts, including Alanza, Tejas Barbecue and Streetbird by Marcus Samuelsson.

Wonder and Grubhub customer delivery operations senior vice-president PJ Poykayil stated: "This pilot represents the next step in our mission to provide diners with fast, reliable and delightful delivery experiences.

"By combining Grubhub's marketplace, Wonder's culinary innovation and Avride's advanced robotics, we're delivering the future of convenience."

The trial will employ Avride's delivery robots which use AI-driven autonomous driving technology designed for urban settings and varied weather, and ride on a four-wheel chassis capable of rapid 180-degree turns.

Grubhub will evaluate results from the pilot to expand autonomous delivery into further US markets.

Avride CEO Dmitry Polishchuk stated: "We're proud to be Grubhub's trusted partner as they bring robot delivery beyond campuses for the very first time. For Avride, this marks an important step in expanding robotic delivery.

“Going beyond traditional restaurant or grocery delivery, it highlights how seamlessly our technology can integrate with innovative platforms like Wonder's, opening up new business verticals for autonomous delivery.”

Avride and Grubhub have collaborated on campus programmes since 2024, completing more than 100,000 robot deliveries in locations such as Ohio State University, where a fleet of more than 120 robots serves students daily.
