Japan's sushi chain, Syouchinosuke by Gattensushi, has opened its first branch in Taiwan.

The restaurant is located on the sixth floor of the LaLaport Nangang shopping mall, as reported by Taiwan News.

The new establishment will feature 17 semi-private dining booths, served by an automated express rail system.

The restaurant offers 127 Japanese dishes, with a focus on sushi and sashimi that constitutes 70% of the offerings, alongside tempura and soba.

Options include the Ise lobster nigiri, a menu highlight described as having a "sweet, springy texture and rich umami," prepared from lobsters handled directly in-store.

The abalone, served freshly shucked to maintain its crisp texture and flavour, is another delicacy that is expected to draw in seafood enthusiasts.

The Bluefin Tuna series, featuring premium cuts such as akami, chutoro and otoro, along with a special marinated tuna dish, will be available.

The menu also offers sujiko nigiri, sea treasure rolls and popular sushi items salmon and tuna nigiri.

Guidance for newcomers is available in the form of a top ten list of the most popular sushi items from the chain's Japan branches as of April 2025.

The list features salmon sushi, made with Atlantic salmon, and includes tuna sushi, salmon roe gunkan, red squid sushi and sea snail sushi.

In celebration of its opening, Syouchinosuke by Gattensushi is offering special promotions. The first 20 groups of four or more diners on the opening day will be treated to a complimentary sushi set.

Members who join the restaurant's official Line account will receive a free matcha ice cream and a chance to win prizes, including vouchers worth up to T$5,000 ($166).
