US-based fast food chain Taco Bell has added a new dish to its menu, the new grilled cheese dipping taco featuring slow-braised shredded beef.

The new item will be available across the US from early next month. It is claimed to be made with a three-cheese blend on the inside of a freshly fried white corn shell.

The taco is served with a nacho cheese sauce and a savoury red sauce for dipping.

Priced at $3.49, it is the newest grilled cheese offering from Taco Bell. The restaurant chain has long been using beef as one of the ingredients, but it is the first time that it is offering shredded beef in an item nationally.

The fast food group claims to have taken two years to perfect the recipe.

Making the shredded beef involves slow-braising with a blend of spices. In addition to the beef, the taco is filled with jalapeño sauce and showcases a three-cheese blend of cheddar, mozzarella and pepper jack inside.

Taco Bell global chief food innovation officer Liz Matthews said: “The rich and spicy flavours often found in birria were a major point of inspiration as we created the new Grilled Cheese Dipping Taco. By combining slow-braised shredded beef with the two dipping sauces, our fans can enjoy a new range of flavours they may have never had from Taco Bell before.

“This Mexican-inspired dish represents an evolution of what fans typically expect from Taco Bell. We're excited to bring this menu item nationwide after an incredibly successful test in 2022.”
