US-based fast-casual chain Portillo’s has unveiled plans to open a new restaurant in Chicago, its first in-line location in the city.

The 5,500ft² location will be situated south of Chicago’s famous Magnificent Mile and will have close to 100 seats. The restaurant will offer dine-in, pick-up and delivery services.

Designed for high-foot-traffic areas, the smaller-format outlet is part of Portillo’s wider growth plans that include new restaurant prototypes.

The restaurant will serve “Portillo’s signature menu items”, including Italian beef sandwiches, Chicago-style hot dogs, and char-broiled burgers.

This opening takes Portillo’s to four restaurants within Chicago and 45 in the wider Chicagoland market.

Portillo’s president and CEO Brett Patterson, who was appointed in February this year, said: “Chicago is where the Portillo’s story began, and opening in the heart of the city is not only an incredibly proud moment for our brand, but also a recognition of how important Chicagoans are, not only to our history, but to our future.

“Michigan Avenue is one of the most iconic destinations in Chicago. This restaurant celebrates our hometown and reinforces a simple truth: no matter how much we grow, Chicago will always be at the heart of who we are.”

Portillo’s has more than 100 restaurants across 11 US states.

In March, the restaurant brand selected Jennifer Pecoraro-Striepling as its new chief development officer (CDO).

Pecoraro-Striepling joined Portillo’s from Miller’s Ale House, where she also held the role of CDO.
