Lunchbox has introduced a free online ordering platform for small, independent restaurants with one to three locations.

The new commission-free offering, called Lunchbox Essential, will allow restaurant operators to create an online storefront and start offering direct online ordering in ‘under 30 minutes’.

According to the company, the offering is designed to facilitate faster check-outs, allowing customers to place orders in under five taps or clicks.

Additionally, the offering includes a Lunchbox Manager App to enable operators to streamline incoming orders and communicate with customers.

Lunchbox Essential also lets operators run a customisable loyalty programme as well as split menus into different folders according to availability and timings.

Lunchbox co-founder and CEO Nabeel Alamgir said: “This is a movement to save restaurants. In between interest rate hikes and fears of a recession, operators have dealt with the biggest setbacks out of any industry.

“We’re arming restaurants with the tools to grow their online revenue and protect their margins against tech giants like Grubhub and UberEats. Over 1,000 restaurants have closed because of the pandemic in NYC alone. Lunchbox Essential is being launched at a crucial time to help the industry get back on its feet.”

Concurrently, the company has also announced a rebranding to Lunchbox Enterprise.

Alamgir added: “As we enter our third year of business, this new brand represents our ability to provide the best tools that help enterprise restaurants take control of their own profits. We have a deep commitment to creating the best experiences for our customers and that’s something that will never change.”

As an ordering system for restaurants, Lunchbox has helped more than 2,500 restaurant locations across the US.

It raised $50m earlier this year and $20m in 2020.
