The global food service industry noticed a 3.9% drop in IT hiring activity in October 2021 over the previous month, led by Chipotle Mexican Grill’s 9.52% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The food service industry’s overall hiring activity declined 12.92% when compared with September 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 0.21% share of the global food service industry’s hiring activity in October 2021, up 0.02% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of October 2021 were 6.85% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 20.97% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 44.22% emerged as the top IT occupation in the food service hiring activity in October 2021, a 31.58% decline over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 19.73% in October 2021, down 3.33% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 17.01% share in October 2021, a growth of 4.17% over the previous month, and Computer Support Specialists with a 10.88% share in October 2021 and a drop of 5.88% over September 2021.
Top five food service companies by recruitment activity in October 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 22.54% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global food service industry during October 2021 over September 2021.
Chipotle Mexican Grill posted 14 IT jobs in October 2021 and registered a rise of 250% over the previous month, followed by Greene King with 11 jobs and a 38.89% decline. Yum! Brands with 10 IT jobs and Domino’s Pizza with 10 jobs, recorded a 100% growth and a 47.37% drop, respectively, while Starbucks recorded a 60% drop with 10 job postings during October 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in food service industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global food service IT hiring activity in October 2021 with a 77.55% share, which marked a 12.98% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 16.33%, registering a 46.67% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 5.44% share and a 42.86% drop over September 2021.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 0.68% and a month-on-month flat growth.
