The global food service industry noticed a 1.4% rise in IT hiring activity in September 2021 over the previous month, led by Compass Group’s 22.78% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The food service industry’s overall hiring activity increased 3.98% when compared with August 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 0.19% share of the global food service industry’s hiring activity in September 2021, flat growth over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of September 2021 were 0.38% higher when compared with the previous month.
The increase was a result of 1.12% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 50% emerged as the top IT occupation in the food service hiring activity in September 2021, a 19.64% decline over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 15.56% in September 2021, down 6.67% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 12.78% share in September 2021, a decline of 17.86% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with an 11.67% share in September 2021 and a rise of 50% over August 2021.
Top five food service companies by recruitment activity in September 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 13.39% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global food service industry during September 2021 over August 2021.
Compass Group posted 41 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a rise of 57.69% over the previous month, followed by Starbucks with 25 jobs and a 19.35% decline. Domino’s Pizza with 18 IT jobs and Greene King with 18 jobs, recorded a 100% growth and a 14.29% drop, respectively, while McDonald’s recorded an 80% drop with 8 job postings during September 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in food service industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global food service IT hiring activity in September 2021 with a 70% share, which marked a 20.25% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 21.67%, registering a 5.41% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 7.78% share and a 100% rise over August 2021.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 0.56% and a month-on-month flat growth.
