The global food service industry noticed a 1.9% rise in IT hiring activity in March 2022 over the previous month, led by HelloFresh’s 29.81% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The food service industry’s overall hiring activity declined 6% when compared with February 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 0.39% share of the global food service industry’s hiring activity in March 2022, up 0.07% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of March 2022 were 0.7% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 2.13% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive food service IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 64.29% emerged as the top IT occupation in the food service hiring activity in March 2022, a 59.23% growth over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 13.35% in March 2022, down 20.37% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 9.94% share in March 2022, a decline of 23.81% over the previous month, and Computer Support Specialists with a 7.45% share in March 2022 and a rise of 4.35% over February 2022.

Top five food service companies by recruitment activity in March 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 27.54% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global food service industry during March 2022 over February 2022.

HelloFresh posted 96 IT jobs in March 2022 and registered a rise of 43.28% over the previous month, followed by Delivery Hero with 53 jobs and a 39.47% growth. The University of Texas at Austin Division of Housing and Food Service with 26 IT jobs and Chipotle Mexican Grill with 19 jobs, recorded an 8.33% growth and a flat growth, respectively.

Regional composition of IT hiring in food service industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global food service IT hiring activity in March 2022 with a 62.11% share, which marked a 7.53% rise over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 21.12%, registering a 9.68% month-on-month growth. South & Central America was the third leading region with a 12.42% share and a 33.33% rise over February 2022.

In the fourth place was Asia-Pacific with a share of 4.04% and a month-on-month rise of 116.67%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.31%, registering a flat growth over the previous month.
