The global food service industry noticed a 2.7% rise in IT hiring activity in May 2022 over the previous month, led by Delivery Hero’s 24.41% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The food service industry’s overall hiring activity increased 32.32% when compared with April 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 0.22% share of the global food service industry’s hiring activity in May 2022, down 0.04% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of May 2022 were 5.92% higher when compared with the previous month.

The increase was a result of 18.47% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive food service IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 47.46% emerged as the top IT occupation in the food service hiring activity in May 2022, a 48.94% growth over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 29.49% in May 2022, down 53.72% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 9.49% share in May 2022, a growth of 3.7% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 7.46% share in May 2022 and a drop of 8.33% over April 2022.

Top five food service companies by recruitment activity in May 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 13.12% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global food service industry during May 2022 over April 2022.

Delivery Hero posted 72 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a rise of 89.47% over the previous month, followed by AmRest Holdings with 42 jobs and a 320% growth. Aimbridge Hospitality with 30 IT jobs and HelloFresh with 29 jobs, recorded a 78.72% decline and a 3.57% rise, respectively, while Chick-fil-A recorded a 375% rise with 19 job postings during May 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in food service industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global food service IT hiring activity in May 2022 with a 51.19% share, which marked a 42.37% drop over the previous month.

Asia-Pacific stood next with 16.27%, registering a 140% month-on-month growth. South & Central America was the third leading region with a 16.27% share and a 92% rise over April 2022.

In the fourth place was Europe with a share of 15.93% and a month-on-month rise of 6.82%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.34%, registering a 50% decrease over the previous month.
