Chef Rishim Sachdeva, known for the vegan restaurant Tendril, is set to open a new café named Café Petiole in Somerset House next month, The Caterer reported.

The new 27-cover establishment will focus on a ‘plant-first’ approach, offering a range of all-day dishes and takeaway home condiments.

Sachdeva was quoted by The Caterer as saying: “This is a whole new concept and brand for me, and to be launching at a venue I’ve loved since my first visit to London all those years ago is an incredible honour, and we are super grateful to our friends at Somerset House for the opportunity.”

Café Petiole will be situated just off the Edmond J Safra Fountain Court and will be joining Skye Gyngell’s Spring restaurant and WatchHouse coffee in the area.

The menu at Café Petiole is a collaborative creation between Sachdeva and Tendril’s pastry chef, Tarryn Williams.

Williams said: “Petiole is such an exciting new chapter for us and plant-based food in London, and I’m so proud to be collaborating on this project.

“From my perspective, a platform in London for incredible vegan baking and desserts is a space that still needs filling, and we are here to do exactly that with Café Petiole.”

The offerings at the new venue include salted piquillo peppers with coriander salsa and ancho chilli dressing; blue corn tostada with smoked artichokes and lime puree and a sweet treat in the form of lemon and poppy seed cake accompanied by black pepper curd.

In addition to the food, Café Petiole will serve an all-vegan selection of drinks, including kombucha and low-intervention European wines available on tap.
