Costa Coffee has made its first foray into the Italian market by opening a new retail store at Fiumicino Airport.

The coffeehouse chain launched the store in partnership with Avolta, a global travel retailer with operations in 64 countries.

Located at the airport’s non-Schengen zone, the new store serves Costa’s signature coffees alongside a selection of locally sourced artisanal delicacies.

The partnership between Avolta and Costa Coffee represents a calculated move to take the Costa Coffee brand into uncharted terrain.

Avolta Italy F&B CEO Massimiliano Santoro said: “We are very pleased to partner with Costa Coffee, a top player of international scope, which demonstrates our commitment to continually renewing our offer and leveraging our global partnerships to offer travellers an unparalleled experience.

“A special thanks to Aeroporti di Roma, host of the new venue where we further enrich our presence in the most important airport in Italy, where we interact with a large number of travellers daily, offering them solutions that meet every need, taste and trend.”

During the store’s official opening, travellers were treated to a Latte Art Show and had the opportunity to sample some of Costa Coffee’s food and drink options.

Along with Costa’s coffees, the menu of the store also offers classic Italian espresso and cappuccinos, a selection of cold drinks, and plant-based choices.

Its offerings also include an array of pastries, including croissants, cakes, and muffins, as well as savoury selections such as wraps, sandwiches, and bagels.

Costa Coffee EMENA managing director Sam O’Brien said: “The opening of our first store in Italy is very exciting. It was the Costa brothers’ love of Italian coffee and an inability to find it in their new home, England, that led to the birth of Costa Coffee.

“Their entrepreneurial spirit and Italian heritage continue to inspire us every day to reimagine new coffee experiences for coffee fans all around the world.

“We’re delighted to partner with Avolta, in Fiumicino, to fuel customers as they travel to and from Italy, sharing our Italian heritage with new consumers.”
