Costa Coffee, the UK’s largest café chain operator, has launched a new Chrome extension, Pumpkin Blocker, to block all things pumpkin.

The new extension blocks and replaces the word ‘pumpkin’ with ‘Maple Hazel,’ including pumpkin-flavoured drinks, food, home décor and scents.

By installing the Pumpkin Blocker, users can have a pumpkin-free browsing experience while embracing the comfort of Maple Hazel on their desktop this Autumn.

Costa Coffee senior social media marketing manager Adam Deal said: “We’re having a little fun this Autumn by helping people say goodbye to all things pumpkin and hello to Maple Hazel.

“Our ‘Pumpkin Blocker’ will help you get the respite you need to get away from a pumpkin overload this September and direct you to the new flavour of Autumn – Costa Coffee’s Maple Hazel range. We’re clearing up people’s browsers and reviving customers’ taste buds, bringing them some much-need autumnal flavour.”

The coffee chain brand said the popular Maple Hazel line has been relaunched at its locations in the UK as part of the new Autumn menu, which offers an increased selection of drinks in addition to sweet treats.

In a statement, Costa Coffee said: “With Maple Hazel on customers’ minds, why not try the indulgent Maple Hazel Hot Chocolate, or if you fancy a pick-me-up, opt for the Maple Hazelnut Blondie.”

Costa Coffee will also offer a new Maple Hazel Frappé, which is only available on the App, exclusively for Costa Club members.

In a separate announcement, the Guardian reported that the coffee chain recently recalled some of its sandwiches and wraps due to the possibility of containing small stones that could lead to a choking hazard if consumed.

Four of the coffee chain’s products could be affected, including Costa’s chicken and bacon Caesar wrap, southern fried chicken wrap, chicken salad sandwich and bacon, lettuce and tomato (BLT) sandwich.

The recall is effective on products with use-by dates from 6 to 8 September 2023.
