Golden Corral Corporation has suspended operations of its 35 company-operated restaurants due to Covid-19.

According to the company, some franchise restaurants will continue to operate across the US, according to the local and state mandates, while several others have temporarily cancelled operations.

The suspension of operations was announced during a virtual town hall meeting with company leaders, coworkers and franchise owners.

During the meeting, Golden Corral CEO Lance Trenary said: “It is truly an emotional and challenging time for our country.

“The realities of the current situation have forced us to make difficult decisions. We know these decisions are impacting the team members who we work shoulder to shoulder with every day.”

The company has laid off 2,290 team members, who consist of restaurant coworkers, managers, field support and company support centre employees.

Trenary added that the company will help restaurant coworkers with food for their families and offer guidance as they seek unemployment.

He added: “We are committed to supporting our friends, colleagues and coworkers during this difficult transition.”

Meanwhile, open franchise restaurants of Golden Corral will implement precautionary measures, including providing sanitiser stations at every restaurant, washing hands every 20 minutes and sanitising food preparation areas every 30 minutes.

In the markets that have imposed dining-in restrictions, operating Golden Corral restaurants will provide carryout, curbside delivery or home delivery.
