US-based restaurateur HMSHost has received a 10-year dining contract worth $258m from the Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA).
The foodservice company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Italian company Autogrill, secured this contract in collaboration with its partners AJA & Associates and Ellis Infinity, as part of the Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise programme.
As part of the contract, HMSHost will operate nine new dining options in the north terminal of Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW).
The dining options include Starbucks, Jolly Pumpkin Taphouse, Anita’s Kitchen Lebanese Café, Cantoro Italian Market Trattoria, Common Grace Coffee, Pei Wei Asian Diner, Brioche Dorée, Outback Steakhouse and Chick-fil-A.
HMSHost president and CEO Steve Johnson said: “Detroit is America’s comeback city with a hot and happening food scene thanks to its resurgence and local talent.
“We are honoured that the Wayne County Airport Authority has selected HMSHost to enhance the airport experience for its tourists and businesspeople by bringing the authentic energy and tastes of Detroit’s restaurants into this major Midwestern hub.”

Jolly Pumpkin Taphouse offers local beers such as Calabaza Blanca paired with a burger or mushroom pizza, while Anita’s Kitchen Lebanese Café offers traditional cuisine such as smoked and spiced meats along with a range of vegetarian dishes.
Cantoro Italian Market Trattoria features Cantoro sauce, pastas and olive oil for customers.
Common Grace Coffee offers coffees and organic loose leaf teas along with sandwiches, pastries, and soups.
Pei Wei Asian Diner serves grab-and-go foods such as Banh Mi sandwiches and Chinese take-out, while Brioche Dorée provides freshly-baked, homemade products.
Outback Steakhouse offers a menu featuring USDA grade hand-trimmed steaks, fresh salads and Aussie-tizers. Chick-fil-A serves all-natural chicken, waffle fries and salads.
