DoorDash has decided to close Deliveroo and Wolt services in Qatar, Singapore, Japan and Uzbekistan, following a review of its international operations.

In a statement, DoorDash said it will undergo an orderly closure of operations in each of the four countries. This includes coordinating with local teams and partners to support employees, restaurant partners, customers, riders and couriers during the transition.

The food delivery company made the decision following a multi-month review of local market conditions.

The move also aligns with DoorDash’s strategy on investing where it sees “the clearest path to sustainable scale and long-term leadership”.

Last October, DoorDash completed its takeover of UK-based Deliveroo via a court-approved scheme of arrangement. It had earlier closed the $8.1bn acquisition of Wolt in June 2022.

Alongside the exits, the company is introducing limited operational adjustments in some other markets. These include additional investment in selected engineering roles in the UK.

DoorDash said it does not expect the changes to have a material effect on its financial guidance.

DoorDash International head, Deliveroo CEO, and Wolt co-founder Miki Kuusi said: “We’ve made the difficult decision to wind down operations in Qatar, Singapore, Japan, and Uzbekistan.

“Our priority is supporting our teams and partners through an orderly transition as we focus on the geographies where we can offer the best products and build for long-term success.”
