The Gladwin brothers have decided to close the Fat Badger restaurant in Richmond, London, The Caterer has reported.

Oliver and Richard Gladwin cite challenges in making the location profitable.

The Caterer quoted a social media message from the brothers that said: “It has been a difficult decision but after two years’ trading, we have been unable to make the site profitable and we are just too small a business to support the losses.

“We have made many friends in the vibrant Richmond community. It has been a pleasure to host your birthdays, brunches and Sunday lunches, as well as selling great British seasonal produce in our farm shop. All our staff have been transferred to other sites and we thank them for their hard work.”

The south London establishment, which opened its doors in 2021, is part of the Local & Wild group. The group consists of Shed in Notting Hill, Rabbit in Chelsea, Black Lamb in Wimbledon, and Sussex in Soho.

The Fat Badger was the fifth addition to the Gladwin brothers’ restaurant portfolio, and was known for its unique twist on traditional British cuisine, Restaurant Online stated.

The restaurant group began with the Shed in 2012 and grew to six sites. In 2022, the group had to close its Nutbourne restaurant in Battersea after six years of operation.

The produce served at the brothers’ restaurants is sourced from Gregory’s farm in Sussex and complemented by foraged ingredients.

Despite the Fat Badger’s closure, the Gladwins are not halting their expansion plans, and hinted at “an exciting new project in the pipeline that we are eager to unveil.”
