Food tech company GrubMarket has completed the acquisition of Brothers Produce, a foodservice distributor in Texas and the broader Southwestern US.

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed by the company.

Brothers Produce will continue operating under the existing leadership team led by Martin Erenwert and his son, Brent Erenwert, who manages the company’s division in Houston.

The strategic move will offer Brothers Produce new avenues for growth by integrating vertically and enhancing technological capabilities.

Brothers Produce will now have the advantage of utilising GrubMarket’s proprietary, AI-powered enterprise resource planning software, WholesaleWare.

This SaaS [software-as-a-service] platform will assist wholesalers, distributors and shippers in operational aspects including financial management, lot traceability, sales support, online ordering, precise inventory management, automated routing and logistics.

Brothers Produce will adopt Orders IO, GrubMarket’s mobile e-commerce solution, and GrubAssist, an enterprise AI assistant offering deep insights and automated order processing.

Established in the 1980s by Martin Erenwert, Brothers Produce has grown into a full-service distribution and wholesale business.

It has three distribution facilities, spanning more than 250,000ft², located in Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth and San Antonio.

These sites feature facilities such as temperature-controlled cold storage, dry storage and freezer storage, enabling the company to serve a diverse customer base with a range of speciality goods, fresh fruits and vegetables, and processed items.

These customers mainly belong to the foodservice, restaurant grocery and retail sectors, as well as education industries across Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi.

Brothers Produce’s logistical strengths include a fleet of more than 200 refrigerated vehicles.

Erenwert said: “Today, Brothers Produce is one of the most powerful brands in the fresh produce industry, and we are thrilled to join GrubMarket to take our business to the next level.

“I feel great knowing that being a part of GrubMarket will allow us to preserve our brand and history while creating a new growth path through vertical integration and technological innovation.”

GrubMarket CEO Mike Xu added: “This acquisition enables GrubMarket to further strengthen our presence across Texas and the Southwestern US.”
