Indian quick-service restaurants (QSR) operator Jubilant FoodWorks (JFL) has opened four new Popeyes outlets in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

The new locations are situated in Phoenix Marketcity Mall in Kurla, Viviana Mall in Thane and Inorbit Mall in Vashi, with the fourth launching soon at Mumbai Airport’s Terminal 2.

American restaurant brand Popeyes, which is known for its offerings such as Louisiana-style fried chicken, entered the Indian market in January 2022 under a master franchise agreement with JFL.

JFL managing director and CEO Sameer Khetarpal stated: “We are thrilled to bring Popeyes to Mumbai, a city renowned for its love for vibrant and diverse flavours.

“The brand has received an incredible response across India, and we are confident that Mumbaikars will embrace our signature offerings with the same enthusiasm.”

The brand is focused on expanding its presence in urban areas, particularly in southern cities such as Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, as well as in the Delhi-NCR region.

The expansion of Popeyes in India places it in direct competition with QSR brands such as KFC.

Popeyes India executive vice-president and business head Gaurav Pande stated: “We’re excited for our Gen Z and millennial audiences to experience everything from the Chicken Sandwich “that broke the internet” to exciting new flavours in our wings range.”

In February 2024, JFL opened a Popeyes franchise outlet in the Chandni Chowk area of New Delhi. Located at the Omaxe Chowk mall, the outlet is serving customers its Louisiana-style fried chicken and chicken sandwich.
