Online food order and delivery platform Just Eat has partnered with Starship Technologies to introduce robot food deliveries, beginning in Sunderland, UK.
Under the collaboration, Starship’s self-driving robots will transport hot meals from local takeaway outlets.

After the services begin, Just Eat customers in Sunderland will be able to select Starship robots as a delivery option within the app.
Both companies said the service will be scaled based on demand, with plans to expand the service to additional locations across the country.
Just Eat’s chief technology officer Mert Öztekin said: “We’re always innovating to improve the delivery experience for our customers, and we’re excited to have kick-started our ground robotics trial in the North East with Starship.
“We’ve teamed up with a diverse range of local independent restaurants to trial the Starship robots, and we’ll be listening to their feedback closely, as well as that of our customers.”

By GlobalDataFounded in 2014, Starship has more than 2,700 robots in use across 270 locations in eight countries. The company said that its delivery robots have completed more than nine million deliveries to date.
Starship Technologies’ founder and chief executive Ahti Heinla added: “We’re excited to announce a new partnership with Just Eat, and to kick it off in Sunderland.
“The key to a scaled, loved delivery service is high-level autonomy. Our robots are trained to think for themselves and learn their way around the local area with ease.
“We expect our partnership to expand rapidly to other towns and cities across the UK and beyond.”
In November 2025, Uber partnered with Starship Technologies to introduce autonomous robot deliveries in the UK.
