American fast food restaurant chain KFC has launched its bun-less, all-chicken sandwich—the Waffle Double Down—in Canada.
The sandwich features a Belgian waffle in between two chicken fillets, drizzled with Canadian maple aioli sauce.
According to KFC Canada, the sandwich will be available for a limited time period in all participating stores.
KFC Canada chief marketing officer Samantha Redman said: “The Double Down is our most talked about and demanded menu item in Canada, so we wanted to do something special exclusively for Canadian fans.
“We know fans have been craving chicken and waffles on our menu, and we’re happy to provide this unique take on the trendy food pairing. The maple aioli sauce is a sweet nod to KFC’s Canadian fans.”
The Double Down sandwich first debuted in 2010 and went on to become the brand’s best-selling new menu item ever, with more than 350,000 sold in its first ten days of release.
The brand is offering the sandwich as a variation on the classic chicken and waffles, along with its Zinger Double Down. Guests can use exclusive offers on the Waffle Double Down on KFC Canada’s social channels in select cities across Canada.
As a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, KFC operates more than 21,000 restaurants in more than 130 countries around the world including more than 600 locations in Canada.
The restaurant chain was founded by Colonel Harland Sanders in 1952 and currently has more than 21,000 outlets in nearly 130 countries and territories globally.
