US-based quick-serve chain Playa Bowls has signed eight multi-unit agreements to open 54 outlets across a range of markets in the country.

Vandelay Bowls president and co-owner Brian Cutlip will lead the charge into the Chicago market with partners Andy Frukacz and Grant Hosking.

They are looking for prime retail locations in Chicago neighbourhoods such as Fulton Market, Wicker Park and Lincoln Park.

Illinois will see its first Playa Bowls outlets with a commitment to open ten units in the five years to 2028.

In Miami, the expansion will be led by Hoboken Hospitality’s Gary Yip and operating partner Alexandra Arguello, both experienced Playa Bowls franchise owners.

They have recently launched two new locations and plan to open eight further venues in Miami and Orlando.

Playa Bowls’ strategic growth plans include multi-unit commitments in key markets. Dana Nentin and partners will open ten units in Boston, Massachusetts, while Raj Punwani is set to open ten units in Manhattan, New York.

Brothers Ethan and Jacob McGowen have agreed to launch five units in Sarasota and Tampa, Florida.

Brad Crider will introduce four units in Phoenix, Arizona, and partners Nicole Ryerson, John Ryerson and JM Mechin will open three in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Three units are planned for San Antonio, Texas, under an agreement with Linda and Lou Crerand.

More than 60% of the new multi-unit commitments are owned by current Playa Bowls operators.

Playa Bowls aims to maintain its growth momentum throughout 2024, with plans to open 75 new shops and secure franchise commitments for 150 more locations in both existing and new markets, including Houston and Dallas, Texas.

Playa Bowls chief development officer Jayson Tipp said: “With these 54 shops added to the 100 plus units already in the pipeline, Playa Bowls growth is only ramping up.

“We are well on the way to achieving our goal to establish a presence in every region of the US, and our current initiatives are successfully reaching key markets nationwide.”

In September 2023, Playa Bowls unveiled its seasonal autumn specials for a limited time period.

The limited-time menu included Apple Turn Up Acai Bowl, Jack-O’-Lantern Acai Bowl, Pumpkin Pie Smoothie, Pumpkin Sweet Cream Cold Brew and Pumpkin Protein Bites.
