Redberry Restaurants, a multi-brand restaurant franchisee, has unveiled plans to build 600 new Burger King, Taco Bell and Jersey Mike’s locations across Canada in the next ten years to 2033.

The company aims to open 300 new Burger King and Taco Bell outlets in the eight years to 2031.

Redberry’s growth strategy includes a mix of corporate-owned and third-party franchisee-operated new store openings, complemented by franchisee investments under its guidance.

Redberry CEO Ken Otto said: “The passion and support we get from Burger King and Taco Bell buttresses Redberry’s Canadian strategic growth partner role for both brands. Each brand, a leader in their respective categories, has a huge runway coast to coast.”

Redberry was recently designated Jersey Mike’s Subs Canada area director, a role akin to a master franchisee in other quick-service restaurant concepts.

The partnership with Jersey Mike’s Subs has been in development for more than a year. Beginning in 2024, Redberry will acquire and remodel the two existing Canadian locations and construct five new outlets.

This will mark the beginning of a multi-year commitment to establish 300 Jersey Mike’s locations.

Redberry board chair Gary Graves stated: “We couldn’t be more excited about our strategic development agreement with Jersey Mike’s and our role in bringing this powerful and category-dominant brand to Canada.

“We were won over by the entire culture of Jersey Mike’s and know that their quality brand will strongly resonate with Canadians. They are indeed ‘a sub above’.”

2023 witnessed significant growth for Redberry, with the addition of 27 new restaurants to its portfolio and the remodelling of 20 more.

The company also signed a new brand partnership with Jersey Mike’s, secured a renewed and expanded credit facility and made substantial investments in personnel.

In a strategic move, Redberry also decided to divest its Pizza Hut portfolio, to concentrate on integrating one of North America’s rapidly growing and influential brands.
