Australian multi-brand food franchisor Retail Food Group (RFG) has signed a master franchise agreement with Germany-based Winkel Group to expand the presence of its Gloria Jean’s Coffees brand.
The two sets of brothers who own Winkel Group, Veysel and Mehmet Akyel and Mustafa and Yavuz Eyice, will act as the franchisees and will open 40 outlets of the coffee house brand in Germany over the next five years.
Currently, Winkel Group is a franchise partner in Turkey for the coffee house chain and operates around 70 outlets in the country.
The first store will open in Cologne in the middle of this year. The agreement comes with options that will allow the franchise owners to extend the current ten-year agreement with RFG to 20 years.
Retail Food Group international chief executive Mike Gilbert said: “Germany has a growing speciality coffee market and Gloria Jean’s Coffees has an outstanding offering to meet that need. It’s an offering that is already very successful with close to 900 outlets throughout the world.
“Retail Food Group is actively marketing our brands in Europe and sees this region as a key part of our international growth strategy.”
