A study by restaurant online marketplace Sirved has shown that hot dogs are the most served menu item in restaurants across the US.
To conduct the research, the company has searched restaurants in the eastern states and identified 18,000 restaurants are offering hot dogs on their menu.
The study also found that fans of the American professional baseball team Los Angeles Dodgers consumed 2.6 million hot dogs last season.
It also noted that Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Boston and Phoenix were the five top cities in the US that consume hot dogs the most.
The Sirved study revealed that 93% of American restaurants call the food item ‘hot dogs’, however they appear on the menu with other names such as ballpark, foot long, corn dog, chilli dogs and jumbo.
Around 71% of Americans prefer mustard on their dogs instead of ketchup and chilli as toppings.
