Independents by Sodexo has renewed its contract with Wellington College in Berkshire, UK, for a further ten years.

The £80m deal encompasses catering, hospitality, retail and domestic operations.

Sodexo’s 160-member catering team will continue to provide meals for the 1,000 pupils at Wellington College, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner and providing 1,700 covers for pupils and staff.

The main dining hall serves 1,000 pupils each lunchtime with hot meals, salads and soups.

Along with traditional dining services, the V&A Café at Wellington College has been revamped to offer a more casual dining experience.

It serves 600 people for lunch with a selection of grab-and-go options including sandwiches and salads, as well as street food style dishes from its live cook station.

V&A Café aims to provide a more relaxed environment for pupils and staff, functioning as an all-day café where they can enjoy quick breaks and watch school events on TV screens.

Sodexo is also implementing sustainability initiatives at the college, such as carbon labelling on main meals through Klimato and reducing food waste with the WasteWatch programme.

The extension of the contract also means that Sodexo will continue managing the Eagle House catering and domestic services, along with a 130-strong domestic services team.

The contract also includes laundry and logistics.

Cleaning services cover the entire estate of offices, classrooms, technical labs, theatre spaces, sports facilities, a chapel and 17 boarding houses.

Wellington College, established in 1859, is recognised as a top private co-educational day and boarding school with 1,200 pupils aged 13 to 18.

Sodexo has been a long-standing partner at both Wellington College and Eagle House, with more than 60 years of service at the former and over 25 years at the latter.

Sodexo UK & Ireland schools managing director Steve Hawkins said: “Wellington College is a prestigious institution, and we are proud of our team there for delivering excellence every day and providing the client with the confidence to continue with us as their partner for a further ten years.

“We are exceptionally proud of the V&A Café. We worked closely with Sodexo’s projects team which has used their skills and expertise to create a vibrant high street feel within a school environment.

“Over the next few years, we will continue to work closely with the college leadership team as it further enhances the student experience with the creation of a new sixth form centre.”

In December 2023, Sodexo, in partnership with Worldline and SV365 Technologies, announced that will launch the UK’s first round-the-clock automated food court for healthcare workers.
