Subway Canada has unveiled new Caribbean-inspired menu items: the Jerk-Spiced Chicken Rice Bowl and the Jerk-Spiced Steak Rice Bowl.

The new dishes have been created in partnership with basketball team Toronto Raptors’ players Scottie Barnes and Chris Boucher.

They reflect the players’ heritage and taste preferences and will be now available across the country.

The new rice bowls follow the success of Scottie’s “Bowlway” menu in 2022.

Scottie Barnes said: “Jerk chicken is one of the most popular dishes in Jamaica, and with my dad being Jamaican, I grew up loving it.”

He noted that authentic spices such as chilli peppers and allspice are prominent in Subway’s Jerk-Spiced Chicken Bowl, complementing the other ingredients.

Scottie’s Jerk-Spiced Chicken Rice Bowl includes ingredients such as banana peppers and rotisserie-style chicken, while Chris’s Jerk-Spiced Steak Rice Bowl has steak and cheese.

Both bowls are topped with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, crispy onions, and a jerk aioli, creating a balance of flavours and textures.

Chris Boucher said: “The food I eat plays a massive role in maintaining my competitive edge, and Subway has always been a go-to for a quick, complete and delicious meal.”

The launch is accompanied by a campaign that includes TV spots with Scottie and Chris.

The campaign also introduces a nationwide contest to find “Canada’s Most Ballin’ Bowler”, with winners getting a chance to bowl with the Raptors stars and attend a game at Scotiabank Arena.

Subway Canada marketing head Lisa Mazurkewich said: “When we learned that Scottie is an avid bowler and the three-time winner of the Barnes family bowling competition, we knew we wanted to highlight his passion for the game.”

Mazurkewich also stated that the fast-food brand is committed to evolve its menu to match Canadian tastes and offer unique experiences with NBA personalities.

The new Caribbean bowls are available for dine-in, takeout, and delivery through the Subway Canada app and other delivery services.
