American fast food restaurant chain Taco Bell has re-launched its Double Decker Taco for the 2023 holiday season.

The Double Decker Taco has been launched across the country for a limited time only, along with exclusive digital deals.

The Double Decker Taco is a bean-filled tortilla wrapped around a taco shell, filled with seasoned beef, lettuce and shredded cheddar cheese and offering “a perfect combination of crunchy and soft textures”, the company said.

It has also rolled out the Double Decker Taco Supreme, featuring additional diced tomatoes and reduced-fat sour cream.

Taco Bell chief marketing officer Taylor Montgomery stated: “The Double Decker Taco holds a deep space in the hearts of our Taco Bell fans. The insane amount of love for this product from fans across our social platforms was impossible to ignore.

“The sentiment was particularly strong following last year’s spirited face-off with the Enchirito. We listened to what our fans wanted from us and knew we couldn’t deny them the joy of the Double Decker Taco any longer.”

Double Decker Taco was first launched by Taco Bell in 1995 and was added permanently to the restaurant’s menu in 2006 before being discontinued in 2019.

Taco Bell’s in-app fan favourite voting feature allowed fans to exercise their influence over the menu in 2022, which is when the Double Decker Taco last made headlines. Customers were given the option to vote for the return of either the Enchirito or the Double Decker Taco – and the Enchirito emerged victorious.

Enchirito is the brandmarked name of the Taco Bell menu item similar to an enchilada.

In August 2023, Taco Bell announced that it is on track to operate 10,000 restaurants in the US.

As part of its growth strategy, the brand will unveil new concepts, introduce innovative solutions and create more digitally-enabled restaurants.
