Canada-based restaurant chain Tim Hortons plans to introduce a new franchise model to grow its presence in the UK.

According to reports by The Retail Bulletin, the restaurant launched in the country in 2017, with its first outlet in Glasgow. It currently has a portfolio of 75 outlets, of which 31 were claimed to have been opened last year alone.

The coffeehouse’s offerings include its signature coffee, iced cappuccinos, breakfast items, made-to-order sandwiches, doughnuts and Timbits.

The company developed the new franchise model following five years of testing and learning. The model is said to help franchisees develop and launch both Tim Hortons drive-throughs and high street restaurants.

With this model, the company expects to add between 20 and 25 new stores every year in the country.

Tim Hortons UK chief commercial officer Kevin Hydes said: “We want to take Tim Hortons to more local communities across the nation at pace and we’re confident that our franchise model will be core to us achieving this goal.

“We continue to see high consumer demand for the brand, with every opening exceeding commercial expectations, so we are confident that our strong market position – being the third largest coffee brand in the world – and our unique customer proposition of a beverage led, quick service restaurant will be of huge interest and will provide commercial value to our franchise partners.”

Tim Hortons was established in 1964 and currently operates more than 5,600 outlets globally. More than 1,500 of its 3,802 stores in Canada are franchise-operated.

Other than the UK, the company is also looking to expand in countries such as China, India, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Mexico.
