British online food delivery start-up company Deliveroo is reportedly considering establishing its operations in India.

Sources close to the matter were quoted by The Times of India as saying that the UK firm is “in the process” of employing a country head, with plans to set up a full-fledged team.

A source was quoted by the publication as saying: “They are in the midst of getting on board a person who will spearhead the launch in India along with building a team. After securing new funding, expanding into new geographies was on the cards for them.”

Among the local players in the Indian food delivery market are Swiggy, Zomato and Foodpanda that was recently acquired by Ola from Germany’s Delivery Hero.

Headquartered in London, Deliveroo was founded in 2013 by former investment banker Will Shu and Greg Orlowski.

The firm has its operations in 140 cities across 14 countries, including Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, the United Arab Emirates and the UK.

It works with more than 20,000 restaurants, as well as over 30,000 riders across the world.
