Global commercial foodservice equipment provider Welbilt has teamed up with AT&T and Microsoft to help restaurants digitise their kitchens.

Under the partnership, Welbilt has selected AT&T to connect their KitchenConnect Cloud solution, which is claimed to boost efficiency at a lower cost for commercial kitchens.

Welbilt said that its KitchenConnect solution will allow restaurant owners and operators to digitally transform their restaurant and foodservice brands.

The solution offers telemetry by integrating new and existing food preparation equipment with Azure Sphere powered guardian devices to Microsoft Azure internet of things (IoT) services.

AT&T Global Enterprise Solutions senior vice-president Greg Wieboldt said: “Adding Welbilt’s decades of commercial kitchen equipment experience built into their KitchenConnect software to the existing AT&T and Microsoft collaboration makes this an extremely compelling solution to the restaurant and foodservice industry.

“This will enable us to accelerate the digital transformation of an entire restaurant chain in a matter of months.”

With this new technological integration, restaurant operators and foodservice retailers will be able to monitor kitchen equipment and save crew time by automatically pushing recipe updates to all equipment sites.

It will also allow restaurant operators and owners to keep track of food safety and equipment across restaurants, as well as enhance equipment longevity with regular monitoring across a restaurant brand’s locations.

Welbilt Digital vice-president and KitchenConnect managing director Omar Jacques Omran said: “Using AT&T’s wireless IoT networks to connect all the sites for a particular foodservice brand helps us quickly improve customers’ operations through digital transformation while connecting all the equipment at a restaurant with Microsoft technology like Azure Sphere gives us a great level of trust in the technology and security we are providing to our restaurant and foodservice customers.”
