India’s food delivery platforms Swiggy and Zomato raise platform fees

Zomato's platform fee has been adjusted from Rs10 to Rs12.

India's online food delivery services, Swiggy and Zomato, have implemented an increase in their platform fees in anticipation of the upcoming 2025 festive season, as reported by IndiaTV.

Zomato's platform fee has been adjusted from Rs10 ($0.11) to Rs12, while Swiggy's fee has increased from Rs12 to Rs15.

Users have begun to notice the changes in their food delivery costs.

Given that both platforms handle around two million orders daily, this adjustment is likely to have a notable impact on their financial performance.

The adjustment represents Swiggy's third increase in platform fees in a short time, having previously raised fees around Independence Day on 15 August 2025 before reverting to Rs12.

Zomato has been steadily increasing its platform fees since they were first introduced in early 2025.

It is currently trialling a new VIP Mode, which would provide priority delivery and customised services for an additional Rs50 charge.

In April this year, Zomato laid off almost 600 customer support associates within a year of hiring them, due to its slowing growth in food delivery and losses in its quick commerce unit, Blinkit.

A new food delivery service called Ownly has been launched in Bengaluru and its surrounding areas, and is expected to compete with Swiggy and Zomato by offering meals at lower prices, with some items costing less than Rs100.

Ownly's pricing will be approximately 15% less than that of its competitors. It plans to charge restaurants a flat delivery fee, avoiding hidden costs associated with platform or packaging fees.
